Meet the Team
Meet Simon Denby — Leading the Future of Drone Training in Australia
At Drone Training Hub, we’re proud to have Simon Denby, as one of the team. One of Australia’s most experienced and respected figures in the drone and aviation industry. With over 28 years of combined aviation experience, Simon brings unmatched knowledge, leadership, and passion for advancing drone training, safety, and innovation across Australia.
Before joining Drone Training Hub, Simon spent 16 years with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), serving as a Senior RPAS Inspector. During his time at CASA, he was instrumental in developing and overseeing national standards for Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) operations — ensuring safety, compliance, and industry growth.
Simon’s aviation career began well before drones took flight. With 12 years of experience as commercial manned aircraft flight crew, he developed a strong foundation in traditional aviation operations, flight safety, and instruction. This deep understanding of aviation principles now underpins his approach to drone pilot training — blending precision, discipline, and innovation.
As an RPAS Instructor and Subject Matter Expert, Simon has trained and mentored pilots in areas including:
- BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) operations
- RPAS SORA 2 and 2.5 risk assessment and approval processes
- Operational safety and compliance for advanced commercial drone missions
In addition to his regulatory and instructional experience, Simon has also worked in senior management with Alphabet’s Drone Delivery Program, contributing to cutting-edge developments in unmanned aviation technology and large-scale RPAS integration.
At Drone Training Hub, Simon’s mission is simple — to equip the next generation of Australian drone pilots with the skills, certification, and confidence to operate safely and professionally in a rapidly evolving industry.
Whether you’re training for your RePL (Remote Pilot Licence), pursuing advanced drone operations, or aiming to work in commercial RPAS applications, Simon and the Drone Training Hub team bring you industry-level expertise with real-world relevance.
Join us and learn from one of the best in the business — because at Drone Training Hub, you don’t just fly drones, you build a career in the future of aviation.
Meet Michael Coyne — Chief Pilot at Drone Training Hub
With over 30 years of aviation experience across both manned and unmanned aircraft, Michael Coyne brings a lifetime of practical knowledge, innovation, and leadership to the Drone Training Hub team.
Michael’s aviation career has taken him across multiple industries — from construction and mining to surveying, asset inspection, film and television, and agricultural aerial operations. His extensive experience gives Drone Training Hub students a real-world understanding of how drone technology is transforming modern industry.
As a commercial drone operator and photographer, Michael combines technical precision with creative vision. His deep understanding of how to capture and deliver the right data for every project — whether it’s a complex mapping mission or a simple inspection — ensures that Drone Training Hub’s training reflects real industry needs.
But Michael’s vision extends beyond industry. He is passionate about education, equality of opportunity, and supporting youth in remote and disadvantaged communities across the Northern Territory and Australia. This passion led to the creation of Fly Forward NT, a High School Scholarship Program designed to give young Territorians access to world-class drone training and career pathways in aviation and technology.
Fly Forward NT is more than a program — it’s a movement that helps students gain real qualifications and skills that prepare them for future jobs in the drone industry. Through this initiative, Michael and the Drone Training Hub team are helping bridge the gap where local government programs have fallen short, delivering education that makes a lasting difference.
With Michael’s leadership and hands-on expertise, Drone Training Hub has become a trusted name in Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) training, aerial data collection, and drone education innovation. His mission is simple: to empower people of all ages and backgrounds to see the world from above — and to build careers in one of the fastest-growing industries on earth.
